Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the 2D to 3D Converter
Which file formats are supported for 2D to 3D conversion?
PDF, TIFF, JPG, PNG, DXF and DWG are accepted as input file formats.
3D models can be created in the respective native file formats of the CAD applications Autodesk Inventor, Dassault Solid Works, Dassault Catia and Siemens NX as well as in the neutral file formats STEP, IGES, X_T (Parasolid), VRML, STL and JT.
Do the generated 3D models have a feature history?
Yes, when 2D-to-3D conversion is done to a native target format, the models have a feature history that allows further processing of the models at parameter level. Neutral data formats do not support feature history.
Can the 2D to 3D converter convert assemblies?
Yes, this is possible. The conversion task must include the creation of all components belonging to the assembly. Alternatively, individual or all components can be provided as a 3D model in decorative format or in a neutral exchange format.
How are the costs of a 2D to 3D conversion calculated?
The individual effort for a 2D-to-3D conversion is measured by counting the geometry-defining specifications. Geometry-defining data are all driving dimensions required for the modelling and, if applicable, further data included to enrich the models. Each specification taken into account is remunerated with two clous credits. In addition, clous charges three clous credits as a handling fee for each task processed. Good for you: the effort for a conversion is determined by an analysis of your data and communicated to you before the conversion. So you always have a good overview and know your costs. There is also a fixed counting method for assemblies. You can find detailed information in our service description.
Are there any initial or ongoing costs even though I only need 2D to 3D conversion from time to time?
No, you only pay for the execution of the conversion tasks you generate. There are no other ongoing costs.
How long does a 2D to 3D conversion take?
clous guarantees the conversion of your drawing on working days within 72h. When creating a conversion task, you have the option of accelerating the processing time by using the booster function, which is subject to an additional charge.
How does clous ensure the confidentiality of the data?
clous transmits and stores your data using the latest encryption technologies. Our servers are located exclusively in Germany. After completion of a conversion task, the task-related data is deleted 5 days after delivery.
